El Dr. Herrera-Molina recibió su grado de Bioquímico con distinción máxima de la Universidad Chile en el año 2004. En el año 2010 recibió su grado de Doctor en Ciencias Biomédicas con distinción máxima de la misma casa de estudios. Luego realizó su Post-Doctorado en el Instituto Leibniz de Neurobiología en Magdeburgo, Alemania. Hoy el Dr. Herrera-Molina es un investigador independiente en ese Instituto (https://www.lin-magdeburg.org/cni/synaptic-signalling) y está vinculado a la UBO como un investigador asociado.
